βLOCK-COPD (Beta-Blockers for the Prevention of Acute Exacerbations of COPD) is a clinical trial that aims to examine the potential role of beta-blockers in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) treatment. We will compare the beta-blocker metoprolol succinate with a placebo. The study will enroll approximately 1028 patients at research centers across the United States, including both civilian and Veterans Affairs hospitals.

This multi-center clinical trial is funded through a grant by the Department of Defense (DOD) office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) to the University of Alabama at Birmingham with Dr. Mark T. Dransfield, Professor of Medicine, and Medical Director of the UAB Lung Health Center, as overall Principal Investigator.
