Study Procedures

The BLOCK-COPD research study is a safety and efficacy study of once-daily metoprolol succinate versus placebo in COPD patients at risk for acute exacerbation to determine the effect of beta-blockers on lung function, shortness of breath, quality of life, exercise tolerance and exacerbation risk.

The FDA-approved beta-blocker used in this trial is called metoprolol succinate.

Procedures done at screening and at various points during follow-up include spirometry, EKG, blood work including serum troponin, fibrinogen, and CRP as well as questionnaires.
